Interview conducted by Iñigo Alfonso with Pedro Revenga del Toro, professor of electronic technology at the University of Alcalá, on RNE mornings on hybrid and electric cars.

This Monday we will know the data on the registrations of hybrid and electric vehicles from last January. Are these vehicles the future? For the professor the answer is yes, although nowadays "the hybrid car is a good transition element until you can buy electric cars with all the load guarantees."

The Robesafe research group of UAH is working on this project dedicated to developing a smart vehicle tailored to the specific needs of senior drivers. The first prototype already exists, 100% designed in UAH.

It is evident: the world population ages and it is calculated that in the year 2030 in Spain one out of every 3 drivers will be over 65 years old. Robesafe works to ensure that the mobility and independence needs of the elderly are not interrupted by the deterioration, due to age, of driving skills.

The Robesafe research group is dedicated to research on perception systems applied to robotics and road safety. It is a leading group in its scope.

In this interview, the director of the Robesafe research group, Luis Miguel Bergasa , reveals some of the keys to the success of a leading group internationally. Such as:

  • What activity does Robesafe carry out?
  • What projects are you carrying out?
  • What is the social impact of the activity carried out by the group?
  • International impact of the group
  • What are the future prospects?

The PhD student of the Robesafe group from UAH Eduardo Romera Carmena has won the prize for the best article prepared by a student at the Intelligent Vehicles Symposium Congress (IV 2017) held between June 10 and 14 in Redondo Beach, California (USA ), for the work entitled 'Efficient ConvNet for Real-time Semantic Segmentation' .

Congress IV is an international reference where researchers, engineers and students from industry, universities, research centers and government agencies are invited to present their latest research work on smart vehicles . It is sponsored by the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITSS) and in its 2017 edition, 297 works by authors from 30 different countries were presented. Attendance exceeded 400 participants.
